The nursing staff can offer advice on:

  • Worming - click to learn about worming your cat and dog.
  • Flea control - click to learn about flea control for cats and dogs.
  • Vaccination - click to learn about vaccinating your cat and dog.
  • Socialisation of new pets
  • General health care
  • Diet
  • Pet insurance

We also run several special free clinics:

  • Puppy parties: we have run these for pups of about 12-14 weeks of age at our Haxby branch but are hoping to have them at Clarence Street. As well as some socialising it’s a chance to get some good advice about how to bring up a happy healthy pup. Click to learn about puppy care.
  • Jolly juniors: we see puppies and kittens of five and a half months of age to check they are developing properly. We can arrange worming and neutering and give advice about feeding. Click to learn about kitten care.
  • Golden years - this is an important clinic for our older patients. It allows early detection of many conditions which in turn can allow more effective treatment. Click to learn about senior pet care for cats and dogs.
  • Weight control - excess body weight carries many of the same risks in animals as it does in humans, namely diabetes heart disease, joint problems liver disease and some cancers. Our staff are here to help you get your pet to a healthy weight. Click to learn about obesity in cats and dogs.
  • Smile checks - why not book your pet in for a free dental check. Dental disease is a very common problem and yet many people never look at their pet’s teeth. Dental disease can cause damage to heart liver and kidneys and well as the more obvious pain and smelly breath. Click to learn about dental disease in cats and dogs.
  • Arthritis - this condition often requires a treatment plan involving several medicines or alternative therapies. It is often useful for owners to discuss their pet’s treatment as the condition progresses. Click to learn about arthritis.
  • Diabetes - good control of diabetes will minimise the chance of complications. To this end we will be running clinics where you can bring your pet and chat to a member of staff about the treatment. Click to learn about diabetes in cats and dogs.

All these clinics are run at various times throughout the day on a Thursday or at other times by special arrangement. Please ring to make an appointment. Wellness is an important part of our work at Abbeyfields!
